About This Spot

Adícora sits on the windward (east) coast of the Paraguaná Peninsula and is one of Venezuela's classic trade-wind spots, drawing kiters and windsurfers for decades (host of the 'Desafío al Viento' events). Wind is NE/E trade, blowing side-onshore on the main beaches, which makes it forgiving for self-rescue and learning. Season runs roughly December–September with the most reliable, strongest period January–September; a typical day is 15–25 kt, and the core windy months (Dec–May) regularly deliver 25 kt with 30+ kt blowouts. October–November is the lull with fewer rideable days. A useful local trick: check the Aruba forecast (24 km north) and add ~4 kt for Adícora. Water is shallow and warm. The town's north/Playa Sur side offers flatter, choppy water that suits beginners and freestyle; head toward the western/southern end and the swell builds to shoulder-high (sometimes bigger) mushy, forgiving waves good for bump-and-jump and easy wave riding. You can run downwind 'safari' miles parallel to shore. Bottom is mostly sand but with reef and coral patches plus some sharp rock — booties are wise, and watch shallow reef at low tide. Current is light (<1 kt). Skill level: genuinely beginner-to-advanced; long regarded as a good place to learn thanks to steady side-on wind, space, and several established schools offering lessons, rental and repair. Launch is straight off the beach with plenty of room; crowds are low outside events. Access: ~45 min by car from Josefa Camejo Intl (Las Piedras/Punto Fijo); alternatively fly Caracas–Coro then ~60 km taxi, or via Aruba. Note it's a low-key, undeveloped fishing town, not a polished resort, and travelers should check current Venezuela safety/entry conditions before going.
