Where does the wind data come from?
Our wind statistics are computed from 3+ years of historical daily weather data sourced from the Visual Crossing weather API. We aggregate this data into monthly averages for wind speed, gusts, kiteable days, temperature, and more. The data is refreshed periodically as new historical data becomes available.
How are "kiteable days" calculated?
A day is counted as kiteable if the average wind speed meets a minimum threshold suitable for kiteboarding (generally 12+ knots). Premium days have even stronger, more consistent wind. These thresholds are based on common kite size ranges and real-world riding conditions.
How do I submit a new spot?
Use the Submit a Spot page. Provide the spot name, location, and any details you know. Submissions are reviewed before being published. Once approved, we automatically fetch historical wind data for the spot.
Can I edit or delete a spot I submitted?
We don't currently have self-service editing. If you need to correct or remove a spot you submitted, email us at support@kitecorner.com or use the contact form with the spot name and what you'd like changed. We'll take care of it promptly.
How can I delete my account and personal data?
Email support@kitecorner.com or use the contact form to request deletion. We'll remove your account and associated personal data within 30 days, as outlined in our Privacy Policy.
What personal data does Kite Corner collect?
We only collect your email address (when you create an account or submit a spot) and any information you voluntarily provide through forms. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics and may use Google Analytics for anonymous usage statistics. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
Is the wind data guaranteed to be accurate?
Wind data is provided for informational and planning purposes only. While we use reputable historical data sources, local conditions can vary significantly due to terrain, microclimates, and weather patterns. Always check current forecasts and local conditions before heading out. Kite Corner is not liable for decisions made based on the data shown on this site.
Why is a spot missing wind data?
When a new spot is approved, wind data is fetched and processed automatically. This can take a few minutes. If a spot still shows "Wind data processing" after some time, it may be in a location with limited historical weather coverage. Feel free to let us know and we'll investigate.
How do I report incorrect information?
Use the contact form or email support@kitecorner.com with the spot name and what's wrong. Community corrections help keep the data reliable for everyone.
Can I use Kite Corner data on my own site?
The data on Kite Corner is not currently available through a public API and may not be reproduced without permission. If you're interested in using our data for a project, reach out to us and we'll see how we can help.
