About This Spot

Wide sandy beach on the southern shore of the Bay of Alcúdia, on Mallorca's NE coast, midway between Can Picafort and Colònia de Sant Pere. A thermal/cross-shore freeride spot rather than a guaranteed-wind destination. WIND & SEASON: Mallorca's reliable kite window is short — roughly June to August, with shoulder chances in May and September. In summer the NE sea-breeze (thermal) builds most afternoons and is the bread-and-butter wind here, giving steady freeride conditions; bring big gear (12–16 m). Best directions are N through NE. W and E winds blow cross-/side-offshore and are gusty and less safe (E winds sit in the wind-shadow of Alcúdia Bay's eastern headland). Winter brings stronger but far less frequent N/NW frontal wind needing smaller kites (9–12 m). Outside summer the spot is often dead. No on-site wind-statistics station, so check Windguru/Windfinder forecasts and nearby reports before travelling. WATER & SKILL: Normally choppy; with N wind it builds into rideable waves. The main village beach (in front of Bar Sol) is sandy, long (~2 km) and shallow at the start — workable for improving freeriders and lightwind cruising on a steady thermal day. Not a flatwater spot. Wave/point-break conditions form ~800 m east at the s'Estanyol rocky point, which suits experienced wave riders only. LAUNCH & ACCESS: Big sandy launch area at the village end; usually uncrowded except peak summer. The eastern (s'Estanyol) end narrows to pebbles with rock underwater. HAZARDS: Rocky/pebble bottom and rock ledges at the eastern end — waves there break on rock. Seaweed along the shoreline. Gusty, offshore-leaning W/E winds can drift you out. Spanish coastal law restricts navigation within 200 m of bathing beaches in summer; lifeguards patrol the village section and may call police if you rig there in season — many launch off-season or at quieter ends. Kite at your own risk; no dedicated kite zone.
