Wide, open sand beach on the Bay of Roses (Golf de Roses), northern Costa Brava — one of Catalonia's premier kite spots, with a dedicated kite zone of roughly 300m near the campsites (La Ballena Alegre / Can Martinet / ION Club Golf de Roses). WIND: Two regimes. Summer (roughly May–Sept) brings reliable SE/E thermal sea breeze that builds through the day, laminar and steady, typically 12–20 kts peaking early-mid afternoon, occasional gusts to ~25-30. Spring (late March–June) often delivers the strongest, most frequent wind. The signature wind is the Tramuntana, blowing roughly Sept–May from the N/NW off the Pyrenees: powerful but gusty and dangerous — when it swings N/NW it turns offshore and is strongly discouraged. Best, most beginner-friendly conditions are the onshore/cross-onshore summer thermals. Kite sizes: ~9–13m spring, ~11–15m summer. WATER: Shallow and flat-to-light-chop close in (flat for ~20m off the beach), getting choppy with small wind-waves further out; out of summer it can build to ~1–1.5m. Sandy bottom, no rocks/reef. Summer water 20–26°C (shorty); 3/2 wetsuit Nov–May. SKILL: Suits beginners to advanced — spacious sandy launch, shallow water, forgiving onshore thermals. Several kite schools operate here. LAUNCH/ACCESS: Large car/camper parking (height limits ~2m at some lots) right behind the beach; walk ~100m north of the main launch to escape crowds. Fly via Girona (~1h) or Barcelona (~2h); car recommended. HAZARDS: Offshore N/NW Tramuntana (gusty, dangerous — avoid). In peak season (roughly June–Aug) kiting is banned close to the beach/swimming zones — launch and ride from the designated kite zone further north. Weekend/summer crowds at the launch. No dedicated rescue service; follow local rules and lifeguard guidance.
