Bulabog Beach

About This Spot

Boracay's main kite/windsurf beach, on the island's east (windward) side opposite the famous White Beach. It works on the Amihan (NE monsoon), roughly Nov–Apr, blowing side-onshore into the bay. Reliability climbs through the season: Nov is patchy and year-dependent, Dec–Mar is prime with the most consistent days (often 20–30 kt, gusting 30–35 a handful of times a season), and Mar–Apr eases back to ~15–25 kt. Best wind is typically morning and late afternoon as the land-sea temperature gradient peaks. From Jun–Oct the SW Habagat blows side/offshore here and the spot is not advisable to ride. Water is warm year-round (25–28°C, no wetsuit). A barrier reef ~400 m out shelters a long shallow lagoon, so conditions are flat-to-lightly-choppy in the protected inner bay — flattest at low-to-mid tide, choppier at high tide. Pass the reef for small wind-swell/reef-break riding; sustained 30 kt builds bigger swell. Tide management is essential: the reef dries out and the lagoon gets too shallow/sharp around low water — locals advise not riding from ~1.5 hr before to 1.5 hr after low tide. Skill level: good for improvers-to-advanced at mid-tide when it's flat and waist-deep; high tide narrows the beach dramatically and demands more experience because launch space shrinks against palm trees and electric poles. Beginners/freestyle favour the shallower southern end of the bay; experienced riders head halfway out toward the reef or the southern sub-bay to escape congestion; windsurfers use the deeper north end. Launch & access: easy on foot from Bulabog's many kite schools/hotels (≈45 min from Caticlan via boat to Cagban + land transfer). Hazards: sea urchins and sharp coral/shells (wear reef booties — kevlar-soled recommended), exposed reef at low tide, a small crowded launch zone, and palm trees/power lines right behind the beach. Upwind kite-line setup is the local etiquette and self-launch/self-land is discouraged here. Peak season (Jan–Feb) gets busy near shore.
