About This Spot

Quiet flat-water lagoon spot on Mauritius' SE coast, just south of Mahébourg/Blue Bay and roughly 15–20 min from SSR airport — the closest kite spot to the airport. Season: SE trade winds blow April–November, with the prime, most reliable window May–October and the strongest, steadiest wind in June–September (August is the standout). Expect ~15–25 kn on good days, building through late morning into the afternoon; off-season (Dec–March) is lighter and patchier. Note the east coast sits in the lee of the central mountains, so wind here runs noticeably softer than the west/north — bring bigger kites (often 9–14 m) and a board with float; it's a foiler's paradise on the lighter days. Wind is side/cross-onshore (predominantly SE, swinging more E in mid-summer), which keeps you blowing back toward the beach — safe and forgiving. Water: a large, protected turquoise lagoon with excellent visibility — mostly flat to lightly chopped inside the reef, no real swell. Suits improving beginners through to advanced/freeride and foil; total beginners should take a lesson as the lagoon deepens off the beach. Launch is from the white-sand beach with parking nearby; several kite schools and guesthouses/boutique hotels are in the area. Hazards: shallow coral reef and bommies (watch tide/depth, don't damage coral), tidal currents that combine with the wind near Île aux Aigrettes nature reserve and make it hard to hold upwind on that south end — don't drift down onto the reserve. Also share space with local fishermen, boats and anchoring/mooring zones, and be aware Mauritius may require a permit or local-club membership to kite legally. Uncrowded compared to the rest of the island.
