About This Spot

Le Moule is Guadeloupe's premier wave/reef spot, on the windward (Atlantic) north-east coast of Grande-Terre, at the 'Beach Park'/Wanalao beach roughly 1 km east of the town. It is a reef break that often ends in a clean bowl — this is a wave-riding spot, NOT a flat-water one. Inside you get cross-shore conditions in straight E wind and cross-offshore in SE; chop and swell dominate, with waves typically small-to-medium but reaching 3 m+ on stormy days as they crash onto a wide, shallow reef. For butter-flat freeride/learning, go elsewhere (Bois Jolan/Sainte-Anne lagoon). Wind: steady E to NE trade winds (alizés) blow most of the season. The kite season runs roughly December through June/July, with the most reliable, strongest and cleanest E wind from January to April; December is windy but lighter (often 3–5 Bft) and builds through the season. When the wind backs to NE, Le Moule works as a fallback when the southern spots go cross-/onshore. Summer (Aug–Oct) is light and is hurricane season — avoid. Skill level: intermediate-to-advanced and genuinely experienced riders only. Beginners should not ride here. Launch & access: sandy beach with parking, showers/toilets and food on-site. The rigging beach is fine, but the usable channel out is tiny and the correct entry/exit line through the reef is hard to read — ask local kiters before launching and watch the water carefully. Hazards: shallow scattered reef slabs and coral heads, dense sea urchins, strong and at times violent currents, and a very small launch/take-off zone. Cross-off SE wind means downwind drift heads out to sea. Wear booties, scout the reef at the tide you'll ride, and don't go out underpowered or alone.
