Small fishing village on RN's north-facing coast, ~100 km north of Natal, that has become one of NE Brazil's most reliable kite bases. Wind is the steady ESE/SE trade wind blowing side-shore to side-onshore along the beach — easy, safe launching with the wind pushing you back to land rather than out to sea. Season: strongest and near-guaranteed roughly July–February, peaking Sep/Oct–Feb when wind probability is ~90–95% at 16–26 kt (gusting ~30). Off-season Feb–Jun is the rainier, lighter window (~50–60% wind, 10–20 kt) — bring a big kite or a foil. Typical daily pattern: wind builds late morning, blows hard through midday/afternoon, eases around 16:30–17:00. Water temp ~27–29°C, boardshorts/lycra only. Two distinct setups. The main town/Maceió beach has a sandbar/reef ~300 m offshore: at low tide you get a protected flat-to-choppy lagoon ideal for beginners and freestyle; as the tide fills, clean rolling waves come over the reef for wave riding and strapless. So it suits everyone from first-timers (with a school) to advanced wave/freestyle riders depending on tide. Several established schools (Tribo do Kite, GKS/Kite School Gostoso, Kauli Seadi, Dr.Wind) offer lessons, rescue and rental. Hazards: the offshore reef is the main one — it dries out and gets very shallow at low tide with rock/coral sections, so know the tide before riding the outside. Watch for tidal current along the sandbar channels. Side-onshore direction is forgiving (no offshore-blow danger), but the beach can get busy with kiters, windsurfers and wingfoilers in peak season, plus swimmers/fishing boats near town — pick a cleaner launch stretch east or west of the center. No major regulations, but give the school zones and bathers room.
