About This Spot

Aruba's main kite spot, just north of the Palm Beach high-rise hotels and home of the Aruba Hi-Winds event (held here each June/July). This is the island's beginner-and-progression hub: a wide sandy beach with several kite/windsurf schools, rentals, boat rescue, showers and beach bars right on the launch. Wind: relentless easterly trade winds, ~355 windy days a year. It blows year-round but is strongest and most reliable in the high season roughly mid-March through August/October, with the windiest months May-June-July often averaging 20-30 kn. Off-season (Oct-Nov) is the lightest stretch but still rideable. Typical working range 18-25 kn; most riders rig 7-12m. CRUCIAL caveat: the trades come slightly side-offshore to offshore at this beach. In solid wind it's a non-issue and the safety boats patrol, but in light or marginal wind getting back upwind/onshore is genuinely hard — don't kite here underpowered, and respect the rescue service. Water: shallow, sandy, flat-to-light-chop inside the fringing reef (the protected zone extends roughly 100-200m out), which is what makes it so good for first-timers and flat-water freestyle/foiling. Beyond the reef you'll find small-to-medium wind swell for those wanting to ride waves. Tide influence is minimal. Skill level: excellent for beginners and intermediates progressing on flat water; advanced riders use it for freestyle, foil and downwind/wave sessions outside the reef. Launch & access: easy sandy self-launch; parking on-site, walkable from Noord/Palm Beach hotels or a short drive. Schools cluster here so help and gear are close. Hazards: the offshore wind component (biggest risk if underpowered), the shallow coral reef offshore, localized currents, and strong sun. It's a busy, crowded beach shared with windsurfers, swimmers, families and lessons — keep clear lanes near shore. Marine-park rules apply: stay well off the coral, mind the marker buoys, and no kiting after sunset.
